Brighter Kashmir Editor-in-Chief honoured by J&K Waqf Board

Srinagar, Aug 15: The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board has honoured Farooq Wani, Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Brighter Kashmir, for his distinguished contribution to journalism and his consistent efforts in providing in-depth coverage of Waqf-related matters.

The recognition was conferred on the eve of Independence Day by Waqf Board Chairperson Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi during a grand felicitation ceremony at Sultan-ul-Arifeen Waqf Higher Secondary School, Makhdoom Sahib, Srinagar.

The event, attended by prominent community figures, educationists, and Waqf officials, celebrated Wani’s decades-long journalistic career marked by incisive reporting, editorials of public significance, and an unwavering commitment to balanced coverage.

While receiving the honour, Wani expressed gratitude to the Board, saying, “I extend my heartfelt thanks to the J&K Waqf Board for choosing me for this coveted honour.”

Dr. Andrabi, in her address, commended Wani’s role in ensuring that issues concerning the Waqf and wider society receive due attention in the media. She noted that such recognition aims to encourage journalists who demonstrate professional integrity and social responsibility.

Farooq Wani is widely regarded as one of Kashmir’s senior-most journalists. His analytical articles and opinion pieces have appeared in respected national and international publications, reflecting both regional perspectives and global relevance.

Colleagues in the press fraternity describe him as a steadfast advocate for ethical journalism and an articulate voice for the community.

The felicitation formed part of a larger programme organised by the Waqf Board to mark Independence Day, which also included cultural performances, speeches on social service, and awards to individuals from various walks of life.
