April 29, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

To foster health awareness and holistic well-being among students, Health Centre in collaboration with Dean Students Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), under the ambit of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, on Wednesday organized a comprehensive health check-up programme for the students and scholars at the Tulmulla Health Centre.

Inaugurating the camp, Registrar, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, underscored the critical link between health and academic success. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized that a student’s well-being must remain paramount, noting that “only when the health of the student is safeguarded can they truly excel in their academic pursuits.” He highlighted the increasing challenges faced by students in accessing timely medical care, particularly in non-urban settings, and described the initiative as a proactive step towards bridging that gap.

He reiterated that health awareness should not be limited to occasional check-ups but must become an integral part of daily life.

Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir stated that such health camps and awareness programmes are being organized under the directions of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, who has consistently emphasized the importance of student welfare and well-being.

Under this initiative, the organizers said students from every department will be systematically screened for diabetes, cardiac conditions, mental health issues and early signs and symptoms of drug abuse. The programme is envisioned as a long-term effort and is expected to take several months to ensure complete coverage of the student population.

Medical Officers, Dr. Abid Ahmad and Dr. Sheeba Nazir, along with their team conducted counselling sessions for students and sensitized them about substance abuse, sharing essential do’s and don’ts to promote a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.

Dean DSW, Dr. Jehirul Islam; Nursing Officer, Mr. Javaid Ahmad Rather, Physiotherapist and other staffers were present.
