District Development Commissioner (DDC) Budgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, conducted an extensive tour of Charar-i-Sharief today to inspect ongoing developmental works, interact with stakeholders, and address public grievances during a detailed Public Darbar at the Townhall.
The visit began with an inspection of the Charar-i-Sharief Shrine, where Dr. Bilal reviewed key projects under the heritage conservation and infrastructure upgrade plan. Works include the canopy path, access pathways, Debri path, lavatory blocks, shrine façade upgradation, and beautification of the historic Bada Talab with fencing. Plans for a new Clock Tower were also reviewed.
“These interventions aim to preserve the spiritual and cultural essence of Charar-i-Sharief while enhancing pilgrim facilities,” said Dr. Bilal.
The DC also visited Government Degree College Charar-i-Sharief to inspect the construction of an 8-room Academic Block and adjoining sports field. He urged timely completion of infrastructure and proper maintenance to promote sports at the sub-divisional level.
Further, Dr. Bilal inspected the car parking facility and Zaloosa Filtration Plant for water quality and public utility readiness. At Sub-District Hospital Charar-i-Sharief, he checked ward conditions, drug availability, and instructed staff to publicly display the list of free medicines. He also ordered the start of newborn TSH testing.
During the Public Darbar, the DC met with delegations from Traders Association, Fruit Growers, Youth Forum, Mutawalli Shrine Committee, and residents from various localities. Key demands included:
Declaration of Charar-i-Sharief as a Model Town and as a separate Kandi district
Creation of dedicated parking near the shrine and Pakherpora
Staff augmentation at SDH with specialist doctors
New academic streams (BCA, Commerce) at Degree College
Macadamisation of roads, establishment of ARTO sub-office, and a separate Food Department office
Improvement in potable water and irrigation systems
Development of modern sports field and better mobile/ATM access in Yousmarg
Dr. Bilal assured all demands would be documented and followed up with concerned departments. Emphasizing participatory development, he encouraged community involvement in preserving public assets and cultural heritage.
Senior district officers, including ADC Budgam, JD Planning, SDM Chadoora, and officials from Health, R&B, PHE, MC, Youth Services, and other departments, were present.
