The chargesheet in FIR No. 44/2026 has been filed against Mushtaq Ahmad Yatoo, son of Ali Mohammad Yatoo, a resident of Chanpora, Rajpora in Pulwama district, under Sections 318(2), 336(3) and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the investigation, the case originated from a written complaint alleging financial fraud in a partnership business between the complainant and the accused. During the settlement of business accounts, an outstanding liability of Rs 35 lakh was reportedly found against the accused.
The complainant alleged that the accused issued a cheque towards repayment of the amount. However, the bank subsequently returned the cheque after it was found to have been issued in the name of the accused's father, who had died around two years earlier. The accused had allegedly signed the cheque himself.
The Crime Branch said the allegations were examined during the investigation and sufficient evidence was collected to substantiate the charges against the accused.
The investigation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Farooq Ahmad and subsequently concluded with the filing of the chargesheet before the competent court for judicial proceedings.
Meanwhile, SSP EOW Kashmir has urged people to maintain proper records of financial and business transactions, verify cheques and other financial instruments before accepting them, and exercise caution to avoid falling victim to fraudulent activities.
