Family of deceased medical student protests outside CM’s residence

February 04, 2025 | BK News Service

The family of deceased medical student Saboora Arshid, who allegedly died due to medical negligence four months ago, staged a protest outside the Chief Minister’s residence at Gupkar in Srinagar on Monday, demanding justice and strict action against the doctor responsible.
Holding placards and banners, the grieving family urged authorities to take stern action against the medical staff. Saboora’s mother recounted the tragic incident, stating that her daughter had undergone a routine septoplasty at Mohammadia Nursing Institute in Gangoo but allegedly succumbed due to an overdose of anesthesia.
“Saboora was taken to the operation theatre at 2:50 p.m. for a septoplasty. However, after hours of uncertainty, at 5:50 p.m., the doctors informed us that she was experiencing severe palpitations and needed to be shifted to a hospital in Srinagar. By the time we reached, she had already passed away,” she said .
The brother of the deceased girl, Zaid, also participated in the protest, holding a placard with the photograph of the doctor allegedly responsible for her death. “She was a medical student herself and was undergoing a simple nose surgery. She should not have died. We demand justice from the government,” he said.
The family has accused the hospital of negligence and called for a thorough investigation.
