Srinagar, July 21: Jammu and Kashmir witnessed widespread heavy rainfall on Tuesday with Kathua district recording the highest showers and most places in the Valley recording below-normal maximum temperatures, the India Meteorological Department said in its evening update.
According to IMD data, Srinagar recorded a maximum of 24.2°C, 5.7°C below normal, and a minimum of 20.0°C.
Jammu city recorded 25.3°C, 8.2°C below normal, with a minimum of 24.4°C.
Other stations like Qazigund 23.0°C, Kupwara 23.2°C, Kokernag 23.5°C, Banihal 22.0°C, Batote 21.3°C, Katra 23.1°C and Bhaderwah 21.5°C also stayed below normal for this time of year.
Gulmarg led the Valley with 29.4 mm of rain in 24 hours, followed by Qazigund 12.4 mm, Kokernag 9.2 mm, Srinagar 9.1 mm, Kupwara 4.8 mm and Pahalgam 4.8 mm.
In the Jammu region, Katra recorded 107.1 mm, Jammu 35.0 mm, Bhadarwah 0.8 mm, Banihal 3.3 mm and Batote 2.1 mm in the 24 hours ending 0830 hrs. Between 0830-1730 hrs, Jammu received 42.5 mm and Gulmarg 46.2 mm.
According to MeT data, Kathua recorded 124.5 mm rainfall, Samba 84.5 mm, Jammu 33.0 mm and R S Pura 27.5 mm while Reasi’s SMVD Bhawan recorded 31.0 mm rainfall.
The Meteorological Department has forecast continued wet weather over parts of J&K and urged people to remain cautious, especially in hilly and flood-prone regions.
Authorities have advised residents to stay alert for waterlogging, road blockages and possible landslides in vulnerable areas amid continued wet weather.
Meanwhile, search and rescue operations continued across Jammu Province on Monday as HG/CD and SDRF units remained on high alert amid heavy rainfall and rising water levels.
Officials said the search operations are underway at Bharote and Sajj in Thanamandi area of Rajouri for two missing employees of PHE and PDD departments.
In Poonch, SDRF teams are conducting search operations at Sangla and Marha Buffliaz River for victims of flash floods. The operations there are being supervised by Sh. Mohammad Aslam, IPS, Commandant of SDRF 2nd Battalion, Jammu.
In Kathua district, SDRF personnel rescued three cows and calves from Tarnah Nallah. The team also rescued two persons who were trapped in Binni Nallah at Barrel, Billawar.
At Sangaldan Railway Station, SDRF and GRP jointly assisted in shifting the body of Nazir Ahmed, 70, a resident of Upper Dalwah, who died while travelling on the Baramulla–Sangaldan train. The body was later handed over to his legal heirs.
Officials said SDRF Jammu Province remains on high alert and search operations in Rajouri and Poonch are continuing in view of the inclement weather.
