Jammu, July 23: Persistent monsoon rains have severely impacted road connectivity across Jammu and Kashmir, prompting authorities to close the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and the Doda-Kishtwar Road after fresh landslides and shooting stones made the routes unsafe for traffic.

According to the Traffic Police, multiple vulnerable stretches along NH-44 have been blocked due to landslides and continuous shooting stones, disrupting the Valley's primary road link with the rest of the country. The Doda-Kishtwar Road has also been closed following heavy rainfall that created dangerous conditions for commuters.

The ongoing wet spell has affected transportation in several districts, with officials keeping a close watch on landslide-prone areas where further slope failures or flash floods remain a possibility.

Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road and the Mughal Road are currently open to traffic. However, authorities have advised commuters to travel only when necessary and to check the latest traffic updates before setting out, as weather conditions remain unstable.

Officials said restoration work on the closed roads will begin once weather conditions improve and the risk of additional landslides decreases. Motorists have been urged to follow official traffic advisories and refrain from using roads that have been closed for safety reasons.

The latest road closures come amid continued monsoon-related disruption across Jammu and Kashmir, with heavy rains triggering landslides, flash floods, and damage to roads and public infrastructure in several areas over the past few days.
