Include Gojri subject in schools of all 20 districts of JK : Gujjars

The Gujjar, Bakerwal tribal community members today demanded that their mother tongue -Gojri must be included in School located in all the 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir State on the prototype of Kashmiri, Dogri, and Punjabi which taught in Schools up to 12th.In a meeting of community elders, writers, poets which was presided over by noted tribal researcher Dr Javaid Rahi, held under the banner of Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation -a community-supported organization -they urged that on merit, Gojri -the third largest language of UT of J&K deserves its inclusion in J&K School so its presence be felt in all the 20 districts, as Gujjars , Bakerwals resides in both the provances of J&K.

Dr Javaid Rahi, in his presidential address stated that we welcome National Educational Policy. He said Gojri is spoken in all districts of Jammu and Kashmir and possesses a rich treasure of folk and modern literature. He said and added that the issue related to its inclusion in Schools of Jammu and Kashmir up-to 12th , creation of posts of plus two Lecturers have been taken up with higher authorities > He added that separate memorandums have been submitted to Lt Governor Sh Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Sh B. V. R. Subrahmanyam , Principal Secretary to Govt , Education Department Dr Asghar Hussan Samoon and Chairman J&K Board of School Education Prof Veena Pandita demanded therein inclusion of Gojri language in Schools up to 12th like Kashmiri, Dogri and Punjabi. He also urged the Schools to project their demands for Gojri textbooks published by JKBOSE
The speakers on the occasion stated that Gojri is spoken by 3 million people in Jammu and Kashmir which constitute 20 to 25% the population of UT. They said that 'Gojri' had been recognized as a regional language in erstwhile state and listed in the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir.
Independent of Gojri is working in Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages since last 40 years besides Sahitya Akadami-India’s National Academy of letters, Central Institute of Indian Languages Mysore , Union Ministry of Education have recognized 'Gojri' as an independent literary language. The first glossary of 'Gojri' the language was published in the year 1901 by Oxford University. Amir Khusrow –a scholar of Persian of 13 century has made mention of Gojri as one among 12 languages of India of his time, he said. All these facts bear testimony to the strength and scope of this language to be included in the School curriculum up-to 12th stranded in all the districts.
