J&K Govt hosts industrial corridors workshop

June 08, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

The Department of Industries & Commerce, J&K, on Monday organised a UT-level consultative workshop at the Convention Centre, Jammu, on the theme “Industrial Corridors & Plug-and-Play Infrastructure: State Readiness for Global Manufacturing.”
The workshop was held under a structured consultation process initiated by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, in the run-up to the National Departmental Summit scheduled for July 2026. The initiative is part of a broader Centre–State framework aimed at strengthening India’s manufacturing ecosystem through improved infrastructure, logistics, investment facilitation, skill development and policy reforms.
Commissioner Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Vikramjit Singh, in his inaugural address, stressed the need for Jammu and Kashmir to leverage emerging global and geopolitical opportunities to attract investment. He said the Union Territory has significant untapped potential for manufacturing-led growth and must effectively present its strengths and infrastructure needs at the national level.
The workshop included two thematic sessions led by the Invest India team, followed by an open-house discussion where stakeholders highlighted sectoral challenges and suggestions to improve industrial ease and competitiveness in the UT. The discussions focused on four key pillars—land and industrial infrastructure, connectivity and gateway infrastructure, skills and innovation ecosystem, and policy and regulatory reforms.
Officials said the consultation process is aimed at aligning Jammu and Kashmir’s industrial roadmap with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and integrating the region into global manufacturing value chains.
Participants included representatives from various districts, administrative departments, industry bodies such as ASSOCHAM J&K Council, Laghu Udyog Bharti, FICCI, CIC-J&K, and several leading industrialists.
The inputs from the workshop will be compiled and submitted to DPIIT for inclusion in the upcoming National Summit deliberations.
