Journalists are Front Line Workers

July 15, 2023 | Er Aijaz Ahmad

In the modern days , journalists have emerged as essential frontline workers, diligently fulfilling their duty to inform the public during times of crisis. Just as doctors, nurses, and other frontline workers battle on the front lines to combat the pandemic or cover other critical events, journalists fearlessly navigate the risks and challenges to provide accurate and timely information to the masses. This script sheds light on the invaluable role journalists play as frontline workers in today's world.

Journalists have always been at the forefront of crisis reporting, from natural disasters and conflicts to health emergencies. They are the eyes and ears of the public, providing vital information that helps people make informed decisions. During crises, journalists act as connection between authorities, experts, and the public, disseminating critical updates, safety guidelines, and emergency instructions.
In their pursuit of truth, journalists often find themselves in high-risk environments. They venture into war zones, disaster areas, and disease hotspots to capture the reality on the ground. Their presence allows them to witness and document events firsthand, enabling them to report with accuracy and authenticity. However, this also exposes them to physical dangers, including violence, health risks, and psychological trauma .
Journalists hold a significant responsibility in holding those in power accountable. By investigating and reporting on issues of corruption, domestic violence , human rights abuses, and government negligence, they play a crucial role in upholding democracy and ensuring transparency. During times of crisis, their investigative journalism becomes even more vital in exposing any shortcomings or mismanagement that may have occurred
Being on the frontline comes with numerous challenges for journalists. They often encounter censorship, harassment, and threats to their safety. In conflict zones, they face the constant risk of becoming targets themselves. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, journalists have faced unique obstacles such as limited access to information, increased pressure to report rapidly evolving developments, and the need to balance public interest with responsible reporting.
Journalism can take a toll on journalists' mental health and well-being. Witnessing traumatic events, experiencing personal danger, and dealing with the pressure of delivering accurate news within tight deadlines can lead to stress, anxiety, and even post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). News organizations and industry bodies must prioritize mental health support and resources for journalists working on the frontline .
Journalism is a noble profession , if any one he / she want to became a journalist . he should know the journalism in a clear and cut manner . this profession is a hectic , but you can interact every one person , if they belongs in the far flung areas .
Journalists have become indispensable frontline workers in the present era. Their commitment to truth, accountability, and public service places them at the forefront of crisis reporting. They face numerous challenges and risks while providing essential information to the public. Recognizing their contributions, protecting their safety, and prioritizing their mental well-being is crucial to ensuring the continuity of their invaluable work. I salute all those journalists of the jammu and Kashmir union territory , which are performing their duty in a well manner . such journalists can really make change in the country .
