
The Institute of Technology (IoT), Zakura Campus, University of Kashmir (KU), on Wednesday held a review meeting for the Centre for Design Your Degree (CDYD), which currently offers an interdisciplinary learning pathway to students.
The review team, led by Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice-Chairman, J&K Higher Education Council, and Prof. Shobha Bagai, Director CIC, University of Delhi, along with the team visited the Centre to assess academic progress, infrastructure, curriculum design, student mentoring mechanisms, and future expansion plans. The Centre was established in February 2024 and currently hosts three batches of semester students.
Prof. Dinesh expressed satisfaction while reviewing the Centre and said, “The Centre is progressing in the right direction with a clear vision and dedicated efforts. Such innovative academic spaces are essential for helping students shape their own learning pathways and realise their full potential.”
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, said, “The University is proud to have established one of the region’s earliest centres that gives students the freedom to shape their own academic journeys. The Centre reflects our commitment to flexible, student-led learning that prepares young people for emerging fields and diverse career paths.”
She added that the University will continue to strengthen interdisciplinary spaces where students can innovate and explore beyond traditional disciplinary frameworks.
Dean Academic Affairs KU, Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada, said that the programme helps students combine knowledge streams and build personalised academic trajectories aligned with global trends in higher education.
While interacting with DYD students, Prof. Shobha Bagai encouraged them to make full use of the academic flexibility offered under DYD, noting that such models empower learners to take ownership of their educational choices and develop problem-solving skills essential for the future workforce.
Director IoT Zakura Campus KU, Prof. Tariq Banday, in his welcome address, highlighted the importance of promoting innovation-driven learning and assured continued institutional support for the programme.
Prof. Syeda Afshana, Coordinator CDYD, IoT Zakura Campus KU, presented a detailed overview of the Centre’s evolution, key milestones, student achievements, and ongoing academic initiatives.
E-yantra lab sponsored by RUSA 2.0 and CIIE, IoT Zakura Campus KU was also inaugurated on the occasion.
