Srinagar, September 18: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday handed over appointment letters to 29 newly selected officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police (Gazetted) Service, urging them to uphold integrity, justice and the dignity of citizens.

Addressing the newly appointed officers, Sinha said the appointment letters represented the trust placed in them by the people of Jammu and Kashmir and carried a responsibility to serve with courage, integrity and compassion.

Congratulating the officers, he commended their perseverance through the selection process conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC). He also praised the Commission for maintaining fairness and credibility in the recruitment process.

Sinha said government employment opportunities had increasingly reached candidates from ordinary families on the basis of merit and hard work.

He told the officers that their journey had only begun and that their primary responsibility was to serve the people, protect citizens and uphold the rule of law.

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted challenges including terrorism, radicalisation and emerging methods of terror financing involving cryptocurrency and money laundering. He asked the officers to remain vigilant and work towards ensuring a fear-free environment for citizens.

Referring to the legacy of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Sinha praised the courage and sacrifices of police personnel who have worked to maintain peace and harmony in the region.

He urged the newly appointed officers to exercise authority with compassion, uphold communal harmony and protect the rights of vulnerable sections.

Reiterating the principle, “Do not harass the innocent; do not spare the guilty,” Sinha asked the officers to maintain integrity and humility while wearing the police uniform.

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, Commissioner Secretary GAD M Raju and senior officers from the police and civil administration attended the ceremony.
