Srinagar, September 1: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Tuesday announced plans to peacefully gherao Bharatiya Janata Party offices in Srinagar and Jammu on Wednesday, September 2, demanding that the Union Government fulfil commitments made in Parliament and before the Supreme Court of India.

In a statement shared through its official social media account, the National Conference said the proposed demonstrations would highlight what it described as its longstanding demands concerning Jammu and Kashmir.

The party has listed restoration of statehood, constitutional safeguards, clearance of the reservation file and what it described as justice for the people of Jammu and Kashmir among its key demands.

The National Conference said the proposed protests were intended to seek accountability from the Union Government over commitments made in Parliament and before the Supreme Court.

“The mandate of the people of Jammu & Kashmir is not a blank cheque. It must be respected, not taken for granted,” the party said.

The NC described the planned gherao as peaceful and said its demands should be addressed through political and democratic means.

The demonstrations are scheduled to take place at BJP offices in Srinagar and Jammu on September 2.
