May 18, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Srinagar, May 18: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo today chaired a meeting of all sectoral and zonal officers at the DC Office Complex to review arrangements for the smooth and hassle-free conduct of Eid-ul-Azha celebrations across the district.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from line departments including police, municipal corporation, revenue, health, food safety, PHE, PDD, R&B, animal and sheep husbandry, fire and emergency services, and other allied departments.
At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed arrangements being put in place at major shrines and congregation points across Srinagar where large gatherings are expected for Eid prayers. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts to ensure availability of all essential facilities for devotees.
Reviewing the availability of sacrificial animals and poultry, the DC directed the Animal and Sheep Husbandry Departments to ensure adequate supply in markets to meet festive demand without inconvenience to the public.
For proper waste management during the festival, the DC instructed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to set up designated collection centres in every municipal ward for disposal of hides and fleeces. He also directed wide publicity of these centres and ensured adequate manpower and vehicles for timely collection to maintain cleanliness and hygiene across the city.
The DC further directed SMC to intensify sanitation drives and ensure proper cleanliness in and around mosques, shrines, and major congregation venues. He also instructed that streetlights across the city be made fully functional before the festival.
To prevent overcharging, profiteering, and black marketing, the DC ordered the formation of special joint market inspection teams comprising officers from Police, Food Safety, Legal Metrology, Revenue, and Animal Husbandry departments. These teams will conduct regular market checks to ensure quality standards and fair pricing.
He also
directed PHE and KPDCL to ensure uninterrupted supply of drinking water and electricity, particularly at major religious sites during Eid-ul-Azha.
The Health Department was instructed to deploy adequate medical staff and ambulances at key shrines including Dargah Hazratbal, Syed Yaqoob Sahib, and Jenab Sahib Soura, among others, to handle any emergencies.
R&B and SMC engineers were asked to carry out immediate repair of roads and filling of potholes, especially on routes leading to major religious places, to ensure smooth movement of devotees.
The Traffic Police Srinagar was directed to prepare a comprehensive traffic management plan, while the Regional Transport Office was asked to ensure sufficient public transport for devotees on Eid.
Fire & Emergency Services and SDRF personnel were also directed to remain deployed at major congregation points for safety and emergency response.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized close inter-departmental coordination and directed all departments to adopt a proactive approach to ensure peaceful, smooth, and well-organized Eid-ul-Azha celebrations in the district.
