Waterlogging woes hit Rathpora Eidgah

February 03, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Srinagar, Feb 3: Inhabitants of Rathpora Eidgah in Downtown Srinagar are facing severe hardship due to persistent waterlogging in interior lanes, with locals alleging neglect by both the elected representative and the administration.
Several lanes remain submerged, severely hampering movement for pedestrians, schoolchildren and the elderly. Residents said stagnant water has made daily life difficult and is posing serious health risks.
Locals expressed resentment over the lack of timely intervention, claiming that repeated complaints have failed to elicit any concrete response. They alleged that neither effective drainage measures have been taken nor the root causes addressed, allowing the problem to worsen with each passing day.
Residents further alleged that the local MLA has not visited the area, while officials from concerned departments have failed to assess the situation on the ground, reflecting poor coordination and accountability.
“Inhabitants feel abandoned. There is no visible presence of the administration, and no relief has reached us,” a local said, adding that waterlogging has become a recurring issue in the locality.
The residents urged authorities to take immediate steps to restore proper drainage, ensure sanitation, and provide relief to affected households before the situation deteriorates further.
