
Srinagar, Sept 28 : A 60-year-old woman lost her life in a tragic road accident at Maloora area of Srinagar on Sunday, after her scooty was hit by an unidentified vehicle.
Police from Parimpora station said the deceased, identified as Fareeda Begum, wife of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, a local of Maloora, sustained critical injuries when an unknown vehicle rammed into her two-wheeler. She was rushed to JVC Hospital Bemina, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Officials confirmed that the victim’s body was shifted to the hospital by Parimpora police for medico-legal formalities. Police have launched a case to trace the vehicle involved in the accident, which fled from the spot after the collision.
Locals in the area expressed anguish over the recurring road accidents in Maloora, urging authorities to install traffic calming measures and increase surveillance to prevent rash driving.
A police officer said, “We are verifying CCTV footage from the vicinity and efforts are underway to identify the vehicle. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered.”
Police have appealed to anyone with information about the accident or the vehicle involved to come forward and assist in the investigation.
