Returned students say situation in Iran normal

January 17, 2026 |

: Dozens of students who recently returned home from Iran have said that the ground situation in the country is normal and far less serious than what is being portrayed on social media, asserting that they neither witnessed unrest nor faced any threat during their stay.
The students, most of whom were pursuing medical and other professional courses, said that although they heard about protests through news reports and online sources, daily life in the cities where they lived continued without disruption. They added that while internet services were affected, there was no atmosphere of fear on campuses or in nearby areas.
Several students said that many of their classmates and fellow Indian students chose to stay back in Iran as academic activities were continuing normally. “We only heard about protests but never saw anything ourselves,” some students said, describing social media narratives as exaggerated and misleading.
Parents of the returning students expressed relief over the safe return of their children and thanked the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) for its support and coordination. They particularly acknowledged the efforts of AIMSA Vice President Dr Mohammad Moomin Khan for ensuring the students’ safe return.
The students reiterated that there was no panic on the ground in Iran and urged people to rely on verified information rather than unconfirmed social media content, which they said often amplifies fear without reflecting reality.
