VC Leads Expert Interaction with Geomatics Students at IUST

Awantipora, April 03: As part of its ongoing Expert Interaction Series, the Department of Geomatics, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), organised an interactive programme featuring Vice Chancellor Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo with students, research scholars, and faculty members.

In his address, Prof. Romshoo highlighted the growing significance of geospatial technologies in governance, environmental management, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable development. He emphasized the need for students to focus on skill development, innovation, and research excellence to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

 The Vice Chancellor engaged extensively with students, responding to queries on career opportunities in geomatics, emerging domains such as Geo-AI and data science, and prospects across academia, industry, and government sectors. He encouraged students to adopt a multidisciplinary approach, continuously upgrade their technical competencies, and actively participate in research and field-based learning. Prof. Romshoo also appreciated the proactive initiatives of the Department of Geomatics in advancing quality teaching, research, and outreach.

Earlier, Dr. Tariq Abdullah, Head of the Department, presented a brief overview of the department, while Ar. Qazi Qamar Iqbal Qari, Dean, School of Architecture, Planning & Geomatics, emphasized the role of interdisciplinary learning in addressing contemporary challenges. The interaction emphasized the importance of such platforms in promoting meaningful dialogue between university leadership and students, while providing clarity on academic pathways and emerging career opportunities in the geospatial sector.
