The Office of the Assistant Commissioner and Designated Officer Food Safety Anantnag on Friday prohibited the sale of a batch of Priyagold Butter Delite biscuits after laboratory tests revealed sulphite levels exceeding the permissible limit. The ban applies to Batch No. E25KPO2FB and will remain in effect until further notice.

Officials said the sample, manufactured by Surya Food and Agro Ltd, Noida, was collected from the local market and sent to the National Food Laboratory in Ghaziabad for testing. The laboratory report (JK-665/DEC/25/786, dated December 5, 2025) declared the product unsafe for consumption due to excessive sulphite content.

Designated Officer Sheikh Zameer Ahmad cited provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 to enforce the immediate ban across Anantnag district, warning that consumption of products with high sulphite levels could pose health risks.

Authorities added that market surveillance will continue, and further measures will be implemented as necessary to ensure public safety.
