Srinagar, Sep 28: BJP MLA R.S. Pathania informed the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday that the BJP had submitted a notice seeking the removal of Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather.

Pathania conveyed the matter to the Speaker during the ongoing sixth session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

The notice seeks to initiate proceedings for the Speaker's removal in accordance with the applicable rules and procedures of the House.

The development comes amid continuing differences between the Opposition and Treasury benches over the conduct of Assembly proceedings and the handling of various legislative issues during the ongoing session.

The sixth session of the J&K Legislative Assembly began on September 21 and is scheduled to continue until September 30.

The notice marks a procedural development at this stage. Any further action will depend on its consideration and processing under the rules governing the Assembly.
