Cloudburst Damages Houses, Shops in Chhatroo; Road Reopens for Light Motor Vehicles

Kishtwar, August 1: A cloudburst triggered flash flood-like conditions in the Chhatroo area of Kishtwar district on Friday, causing partial damage to two houses and two shops and prompting authorities to launch immediate restoration efforts.

Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, said the incident occurred after a cloudburst upstream caused a drain passing through the Student Market area to overflow, sending large volumes of debris and mud onto the road.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, two adjacent houses and two shops suffered partial damage due to the sudden influx of debris.

Following the incident, the district administration mobilized all concerned departments to carry out restoration work. Heavy machinery, including JCBs and excavators, was deployed to clear the debris and restore road connectivity.

Officials said the affected road has been reopened for light motor vehicles after the obstruction was removed, while cleaning and restoration operations are continuing.

The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and conducting an assessment of the damage caused by the cloudburst.
