
The Committee on Privileges of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today convened a meeting at the Assembly Complex, Srinagar, to deliberate on matters related to the constitutional privileges and entitlements of legislators.
The meeting was chaired by Committee Chairman, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, and attended by members Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Salman Sagar, Javaid Riyaz (Bedar), Javaid Iqbal, and Bharat Bhushan.
Also present were Commissioner Secretary GAD, M Raju; Secretary Hospitality & Protocol, Bhupinder Kumar; Secretary Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs, Achal Sethi; and Secretary Legislative Assembly, Manoj Kumar Pandita.
The Committee emphasized the need to ensure proper protocol and privileges to legislators and directed for greater cooperation to facilitate the smooth functioning of the legislature.
At the outset, the Chairman underscored the importance of legislators asserting their constitutional rights and privileges on all appropriate platforms. He expressed confidence in the collective commitment of members to uphold the integrity of the institution and assured that the Committee would continue to perform within its mandate in the larger interest of public welfare.
Members also offered valuable suggestions and stressed maintaining protocols to safeguard the dignity, autonomy, and effective functioning of elected representatives.
The Committee resolved to compile a detailed report on issues related to privileges and protocols of legislators and submit the same to the concerned quarters for appropriate action.
