Srinagar, July 27: A fresh spell of rainfall is expected to affect Jammu and Kashmir from Tuesday, with the Jammu region likely to experience more intense weather activity over the coming days, according to the latest forecast issued by the Meteorological Department.

The forecast predicts light to moderate intermittent rainfall across the Kashmir Valley. In contrast, several districts of the Jammu region, including Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, Poonch and Rajouri, are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall.

Weather conditions are expected to worsen on July 30 and 31, when parts of the Jammu region, particularly the Pir Panjal range and the Chenab Valley, may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Officials have warned that the prevailing weather conditions could lead to flash floods, landslides, mudslides and shooting stones in vulnerable areas. There is also a possibility of isolated cloudburst incidents in higher reaches and mountainous regions.

The rainfall may also affect road connectivity. The Jammu Srinagar National Highway, especially the Ramban to Udhampur stretch, could witness temporary traffic disruptions due to landslides and shooting stones. Several other roads in hilly districts may also remain susceptible to weather related interruptions.

The weather is expected to improve on August 1 and 2. However, another spell of rain is likely to impact the Union Territory on August 3 and 4.

Authorities have advised residents, especially those living near rivers, streams, nallahs and landslide prone areas, to remain cautious and follow official advisories. Travellers have also been urged to check road and highway conditions before planning their journeys during the forecast period.
