GMC Anantnag Restricts Medical Representatives’ Entry Into OPDs, Wards During Duty Hours

August 15, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Anantnag, August 15: Government Medical College Anantnag has restricted the entry and movement of medical representatives in OPDs, wards and casualty areas of the institution and its associated hospitals during duty hours.

The decision follows reports that medical representatives were moving freely through these areas and, in some cases, examining patients’ prescriptions.

The college administration said such practices could disrupt patient care, hospital discipline and the smooth functioning of clinical services.

Under the new directions, medical representatives have been prohibited from approaching doctors or patients in OPDs, wards and casualty areas for promotional or professional activities during duty hours.

They may meet doctors after duty hours, provided such interactions do not interfere with patient care or hospital operations.

The administration has directed heads of departments, faculty members, consultants, resident doctors, outsourced security personnel and other concerned officials to ensure strict compliance with the order.

Any violation of the instructions will be viewed seriously and may result in disciplinary action under the applicable rules.

The Medical Superintendent of MMABM Associated Hospital has also been asked to establish a monitoring mechanism through the respective Chief Medical Officers on duty to ensure compliance.

Police at the Janglat Mandi post in Anantnag have also been asked to maintain vigilance and report any violations.

The order was issued by the Principal of Government Medical College Anantnag and circulated to the Health and Medical Education Department, heads of departments, associated hospitals and other concerned authorities.
