Srinagar, Oct 17: Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Sujit Kumar Singh, on Saturday chaired a conference on SMART Policing and Digital Beat Policing, attended by senior police officers, including Range DIGs, District SSPs, Additional SPs, Zonal SPs, DySPs and Station House Officers from across Kashmir Zone.
During the meeting, the IGP directed all police stations in Kashmir Zone to integrate SMART Policing and Digital Beat Policing into their routine operations, in accordance with the vision and directions of the Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir.
The initiative aims to modernise police stations, improve operational efficiency, strengthen accountability and make policing more accessible and responsive to the public.
Highlighting the core principles of SMART Policing, the IGP emphasised that it should be Strict and Sensitive, Modern and Mobile, Alert and Accountable, Reliable and Responsive, and Techno-savvy and Trained.
He stressed that these principles must translate into practical improvements in police functioning, staff behaviour and public service delivery rather than remain limited to official policies and guidelines.
Emphasising the importance of Digital Beat Policing, Singh instructed all SHOs to ensure its effective implementation within their respective jurisdictions. Beat Officers were directed to conduct regular field visits, maintain close contact with residents and ensure that police services reach people at the grassroots level.
The digital policing framework will focus on strengthening public outreach, maintaining updated digital beat records, improving access to services through technology and ensuring greater accountability of Beat Officers through regular supervision by SHOs.
The initiative will also encourage community participation and promote the use of modern technological tools to make policing more efficient and responsive to emerging public needs.
The IGP observed that police stations serve as the primary point of contact between the police and the public. He said they must function as accessible, responsive and technology-enabled institutions.
Supervisory officers were directed to closely monitor the implementation of these initiatives and ensure that their impact is visible at the ground level.
The IGP said the objective was to make every police station in Kashmir Zone SMART and citizen-centric, using technology to enhance accountability and ensure that every citizen receives police services with dignity.
All District Police Heads were instructed to ensure effective implementation of the directions across Kashmir Zone.
