Srinagar, Aug 11: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V K Birdi on Tuesday said adequate security arrangements have been put in place across the Valley for Independence Day celebrations and urged people to participate in the events in large numbers.
Speaking to reporters, Birdi said Independence Day celebrations are essentially a function of the people, while police and other security agencies are responsible for organising and securing the events.
“It is a people’s function. We are only organizers. People should participate in large numbers,” the IGP said.
He said foolproof security arrangements have been put in place to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of the celebrations across Kashmir.
When asked about the recent twin incidents in south Kashmir, Birdi said police would share details regarding the attacks at an appropriate time.
He declined to disclose further operational details, saying the information would be made public when considered appropriate.
