The Department of Philosophy, University of Kashmir (KU), in collaboration with the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi, celebrated Indian Philosophers’ Day at the Main Campus.

The event aimed to revisit the ideas of Indian philosophers, highlight their relevance to contemporary social and ethical issues, and encourage critical engagement with India’s philosophical traditions among students and scholars.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, said, “Indian philosophy offers a rich intellectual heritage that continues to shape our understanding of ethics, knowledge, and society. Engaging with these traditions helps students develop critical thinking and a deeper sense of responsibility towards society.”

Registrar KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, said that such academic platforms strengthen the culture of reflection and dialogue within universities, while Dean, School of Arts, Languages and Literature KU, Prof. Aejaz Mohammed Sheikh, noted that philosophy plays a key role in linking classical thought with present-day academic and social concerns.
