Kulgam Residents Demand Action Against Illegal Roadside Parking of Heavy Vehicles

July 11, 2026 | BK News Service

Kulgam, July 11: Residents of the Bogund, Soper and Sonigam areas in south Kashmir's Kulgam district have urged the district administration to take immediate action against the illegal roadside parking of heavy vehicles, saying the practice has turned the link road into a potential accident spot.

In a representation submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, Senior Superintendent of Police and the Assistant Regional Transport Officer of Kulgam, the residents alleged that trucks and other heavy vehicles remain parked along both sides of the Bogund, Soper and Sonigam link road for extended periods, causing traffic congestion and obstructing the smooth movement of vehicles.

They said the problem becomes more severe during rainfall, as waterlogging reduces visibility and leaves little space for vehicles and pedestrians to pass safely.

The residents expressed concern that the continued roadside parking poses a risk to schoolchildren, commuters, emergency services and other road users, increasing the chances of road accidents.

They appealed to the authorities to launch a drive against violators, carry out regular inspections and ensure that heavy vehicles are not parked along the roadside in violation of traffic rules.

The residents also called for immediate intervention, urging the administration to address the issue on priority to ensure safer roads and hassle free movement of traffic in the area.
