Massive Landslide Disrupts Jammu-Srinagar Highway, Srinagar-Bound Traffic Affected

August 17, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Udhampur, August 17: A major landslide disrupted traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) near Darmathal-Dewal in the Udhampur-Chenani sector on Monday, affecting movement, particularly on the Srinagar-bound upper tube.

Heavy mud, rocks and debris fell onto the highway, blocking traffic along the important route and prompting authorities to regulate vehicular movement at multiple points.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), along with local teams, deployed machinery and personnel to clear the debris and restore traffic on the affected stretch.

Traffic movement around Jakhani and Dewal-Samroli also remained affected, with authorities implementing intermittent halts, single-lane diversions and controlled traffic releases depending on road conditions.

Officials have advised commuters to avoid non-essential travel through the affected sector until weather conditions improve and the highway is declared safe for regular movement.

Motorists travelling towards Kashmir have been urged to check the latest traffic advisories before starting their journey and exercise extreme caution on vulnerable stretches of NH-44.
