Jammu, Aug 10: Police have arrested the owner and driver of a matador after 33 passengers were injured in an accident near Super Specialty Hospital in Jammu on Sunday night.

The matador, bearing registration number JK02BE-4479, was seized following the accident. Police said the 16-seater vehicle was allegedly carrying 38 passengers at the time of the crash, more than twice its permitted capacity.

According to police, the accident occurred due to rash driving, leaving 33 passengers injured. All the injured were shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for treatment.

The incident has raised concerns over the operation of overcrowded passenger vehicles and alleged violations of prescribed safety norms. The fact that several of the passengers were teenagers and children has further highlighted concerns over passenger safety.

The vehicle remains in police custody as authorities continue investigating the circumstances of the accident and the alleged violations.
