Rang Tarang Festival Culminates with Record Breaking Performances at IIM Jammu

Breaking all records and by creating a new history 'Rang Tarang'- a festival of theatre and dance concluded here today at Mandpam, IIM Jammu. Featuring 16 plays and 4 dance events all under the direction of Balwant Thakur offered a vast variety of plays and dances covering different genres, periods, approaches and forms of theatre. From world classics to Indian classics, from classical to traditional and contemporary, the festival will be remembered for this amazing diversity. 'Rang Tarang' was inaugurated on 15th of July, 2025 by the Director IIM Jammu Prof. B.S. Sahay who appreciated the efforts of all the participants, faculty members and the festival director for making this historic event happen at IIM Jammu.   Over four vibrant days, from July 15 to July 18, the festival witnessed an extraordinary display of talent, setting a record with the highest number of performances by a group of 128 brilliant artists.

The festival opened with a spectacular blend of theatre and dance, captivating audiences with powerful stage performances and energetic cultural displays. A wide array of plays, both contemporary and classic, were showcased during the event. These included Rehearsal by Lakshmi Kant Vaishnav, Aaj Ki Aurat by Balwant Thakur, Gadda, based on a story by Kishen Chander, and The Dear Departed by Stanley Houghton. The audience  was also treated to Sabse Bada Aadmi by Bhagwati Charan Verma, Koi Aur Raasta and Antral Ke Baad, both written by Pratap Sehgal, and Budhi Kaaki, based on a story by Munshi Premchand. Other notable performances included Ander Nagri by Bhartendu Harishchandra, Coffee House Wali Ladki by Dr. Satya Parkash, Girgit, based on a short story by Anton Chekhov, as well as Janta Pagal Hogayi Hai by Shiv Ram,  Jangi Ram Ki Haveli written by Gurusharan Singh, Miss World Undeclared written by Satyendra Shrivastava, Refund by Fritz Karinthy and Jonk written by Upender Nath Ashk.

In addition to theatre, the festival highlighted the cultural richness of the region through mesmerizing dance performances. Students of IIM Jammu presented traditional regional dances including Gojri, Pahadi, and Dogri Jagarana, which drew loud applause and admiration from the audience.

Speaking on the occasion Director Natrang Padmashree Balwant Thakur who was also the festival director of 'Rang Tarang'  shares that, with its dynamic blend of drama and dance, Rang Tarang 2025 not only showcased the immense talent of the students but also celebrated the vibrant cultural heritage of India. The event has truly set a new benchmark for artistic expression and youth engagement in academic institutions.

The festival Young Tarang is coordinated and assisted by a team of senior professionals from Natrang including Neeraj Kant, Pawan Verma, Sunny Mujoo, Kananpreet Kaur and Brijesh Avtar Sharma.
