: The two-day annual alumni meet, SANGAM-2025, concluded successfully at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Saturday.
The event was organized by the Office of Dean Alumni and International Affairs (A&IA) in collaboration with the NIT Srinagar Alumni Association, bringing together distinguished alumni, faculty, students, and guests from across the country.
The event was presided over by Chief Guest Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Kashmir; In-charge Director NIT Srinagar Prof. Roohie Naaz Mir; Dean Alumni and International Affairs Dr. Prof. MA Shah; Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman; and former Director Prof. A.M. Wani.
Other guests included Er. Ram Mohan, Dr. Pradeep Tyle, and Er. Mally Chatterjee, Er Amir Ali, and Chairman NLCO Manzoor Wangnoo, who were the Guests of Honor.
In his keynote address, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, VC, Central University of Kashmir, highlighted the importance of effective communication, strong connections, and coordinated efforts among the alumni network to enhance the growth and reputation of NIT Srinagar.
“Alumni serve as a vital bridge between the institute and the global professional community, facilitating mentorship, industry linkages, and opportunities for current students,” he said.
Prof. Nath also encouraged the alumni to participate in institutional initiatives actively, contribute to research and innovation, and strengthen the bond with their alma mater for the collective development of students and the institute.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, commended the organizing committee for successfully hosting SANGAM-2025 and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the institute’s global reputation.
“Our alumni are our strongest ambassadors. Their continued association with the institute helps us evolve academically and socially,” he said.
Prof. Kanaujia said NIT Srinagar stands at a crucial juncture of transformation, and alumni engagement will be pivotal in achieving our collective goals.
In her address, I/C Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Roohie Naaz Mir, said NIT Srinagar had made significant progress in research, innovation, and student welfare over the past few years.
She said that the institute aimed to deepen its alumni engagement through joint academic and social initiatives. “Alumni are key stakeholders in institutional growth and their participation ensures continuity of excellence,” Prof. Roohie said.
Prof. A.M. Wani, former Director of NIT Srinagar, praised the organizers for conducting the event and reflected on the institute’s journey since its inception. He said NIT Srinagar’s growth story has been shaped by its visionary faculty and globally successful alumni.
Institute Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman presented a detailed account of the institute’s academic progress, research achievements, and infrastructural developments.
He highlighted several initiatives undertaken to strengthen interdisciplinary research, promote startups, and enhance global academic collaborations.
“We are committed to ensuring that NIT Srinagar continues to serve as a centre of innovation, inclusivity, and excellence,” Prof. Rehman said.
In his welcome address, President of Alumni Association, NIT Srinagar, Prof. M.S. Mir, praised the institute’s consistent progress in academics and infrastructure.
He said alumni must act as ambassadors of NIT Srinagar’s legacy in their respective professional domains. “Our alumni community reflects the institute’s excellence; your collective success strengthens the brand of NIT Srinagar nationally and globally,” he said.
In his remarks, Prof. M.A. Shah, Dean Alumni & International Affairs, underscored the growing global footprint of NIT Srinagar alumni and the significance of nurturing strong institutional bonds.
He stated that SANGAM-2025 symbolizes the “bridges of knowledge and friendship” built over decades, and reflects the institute’s progressive vision for academic excellence and global outreach.
Prof. Shah emphasized that alumni are not only ambassadors of the institute’s values but also vital contributors to its future growth.
“Our alumni are the pillars of our progress. This platform is about reconnecting, rediscovering, and reinventing together,” he said, adding that the vision document for 2030 was also released at the conference.
Er. Aamir Ali, General Secretary of the Alumni Association, presented an overview of the association’s activities and initiatives. He called for structured alumni engagement programs to support students through mentorship and internships.
Er. Ram Mohan, Guest of Honor, highlighted the importance of technical education in national development and urged alumni to contribute towards capacity-building and skill enhancement programs at NIT Srinagar.
Dr. Pradeep Tyle, another Guest of Honor, focused on research-led innovation, stressing the need for industry-driven projects. He said, “Our graduates must be equipped not only with theoretical knowledge but also with the ability to innovate for local and national needs,” he said.
Er. Mally Chatterjee, Guest of Honor, underscored the need for a strong alumni endowment fund to support scholarships, research, and campus infrastructure. “The success of any institute lies in the strength of its alumni network,” he said.
Chairman of NLCO, Manzoor Wagnoo, appreciated NIT Srinagar’s efforts in organizing SANGAM-2025 and reconnecting generations of graduates.
He emphasized the need for stronger industry-academia linkages to make technical education more relevant to emerging global challenges.
The highlight of the morning was the release of “Bridges & Beacons: A Chronicle of NIT Srinagar” by the dignitaries. The publication captures the institute’s evolution, landmark achievements, and success stories of its alumni.
Er. R.A. Fani, Editor-in-Chief, in his brief remarks, said that there is importance of preserving the institution’s historical record and strengthening alumni engagement for knowledge sharing and mentoring.
The dignitaries later felicitated faculty, students, and volunteers. Dr. H.S. Pali, Associate Dean (Alumni & International Affairs), delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all participants. Dr Dinesh Kumar Rajendran was the overall coordinator of the two-day event.
Earlier, day two began with a plantation drive in the Medicinal Garden, followed by the national Anthem and lighting of the ceremonial lamp at Common Hall.
