Traffic Suspended on Jammu–Srinagar National Highway Due to Heavy Rain, Landslides

July 22, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Srinagar, July 22: Vehicular movement on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) was suspended from both ends on Wednesday morning after incessant rainfall triggered landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones at multiple vulnerable locations along the highway.

According to the Traffic Police, traffic was stopped at around 9:30 a.m. as continuous rain made travel unsafe across several stretches of the highway.

Authorities have advised commuters to avoid travelling on NH-44 until weather conditions improve and the road is declared safe for vehicular movement.

Passengers planning to undertake the journey have been urged to check the latest road status through the Traffic Police’s official social media handles or by contacting the respective Traffic Control Units (TCUs) before starting their trip.

The Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, the only all-weather surface link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, has experienced repeated disruptions in recent days due to persistent rainfall and unstable hill slopes, impacting the smooth movement of traffic.
