Srinagar, August 5: Jammu and Kashmir is expected to experience intermittent rain and thundershowers over the coming 10 days, with isolated areas likely to receive heavy rainfall between August 9 and 11, according to the latest weather forecast.
The forecast suggests that from August 6 to 8, many parts of the Union Territory are likely to witness light to moderate rain accompanied by thundershowers. Brief but intense showers may also occur at a few locations during this period.
A more active weather system is expected to affect the region between August 9 and 11, bringing moderate rainfall to several districts, while isolated areas could experience heavy downpours and short-duration intense showers.
The Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rainfall during this period may lead to flash floods, landslides, mudslides and shooting stones in vulnerable areas. Rising water levels in streams and rivulets are also possible, while surface transport, particularly along hilly routes and the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, may face temporary disruptions if intense rainfall occurs.
Between August 12 and 15, weather conditions are expected to remain unsettled, with light rain or thundershowers likely at many places and isolated spells of intense showers.
Rainfall recorded during the past 24 hours included 81 mm in Kathua, 66.6 mm in Udhampur, 51 mm in Katra and 47 mm in Samba.
Authorities have urged residents, tourists and commuters to remain vigilant, especially in flood- and landslide-prone areas, and to monitor official weather updates before planning travel.
