Srinagar, Sep 25: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is scheduled to move a resolution in the Legislative Assembly calling for the restoration of full statehood to the Union Territory.

As per the supplementary list of business issued by the Assembly Secretariat, the proposed resolution urges the Government of India to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest.

The resolution also refers to earlier decisions of the House dated June 26, 2000, and November 6, 2024, and proposes that the fresh resolution be forwarded to the Government of India for consideration.

The development comes during the ongoing autumn session of the J&K Legislative Assembly, which is scheduled to continue until September 30. The Assembly's official eVidhan portal lists September 25 among the sitting days of the current session.

The resolution passed by the House on November 6, 2024, had called for dialogue with elected representatives of Jammu and Kashmir regarding the restoration of special status and constitutional safeguards. It was introduced by then Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary and passed amid objections from BJP legislators.

The proposed resolution by Omar Abdullah is specifically focused on restoring full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
