Leh, Oct 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a series of major infrastructure projects in Ladakh virtually on October 15, including the newly expanded terminal at Leh airport and several important road and bridge projects.
The programme is expected to commence at 11 am, with the Prime Minister likely to address the gathering through video conferencing from New Delhi. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, senior government officials and other dignitaries are expected to attend the main event in Leh.
The upgraded terminal at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport is one of the key projects scheduled for inauguration. Built at an estimated cost of over Rs 600 crore, the three-storey facility covers around 23,000 square metres and has been designed to handle up to 3.5 million passengers annually.
The expanded terminal is expected to enhance passenger facilities and increase the airport's capacity to accommodate growing air traffic. The development is also expected to strengthen connectivity to Ladakh, particularly during the peak tourist season.
In addition to the airport terminal, several road and bridge projects are scheduled to be inaugurated. These infrastructure developments are intended to improve transportation links across the Union Territory, including remote and border regions, while facilitating civilian travel and meeting strategic connectivity requirements.
Inauguration ceremonies are also planned across all seven districts of Ladakh. Deputy Commissioners, police officials, socio-religious representatives and other prominent personalities are expected to participate in the district-level programmes.
