Let me first congratulate brother Abdul Samad, the third cricket player from Jammu & Kashmir to have made his debut at IPL as part of Sunrisers Hyderabad on a wonderful and extremely promising note.
While, I must say most Kashmiris have welcomed the rise of another cricketing talent from our region a large number of Kashmiris (both Muslims and Pundits) have disowned him for various reasons - his non-Koshur roots, his belonging to Jammu region and his playing IPL.
This raises an interesting question as to what exactly do Kashmiri people want ?
A section of Koshur Muslims, who supposedly consider Muslims of all parts of the world as one Ummah have disowned brother Abdul Samad because he is not a Kashmiri but "Gujjar" from Jammu. For this pretentious section of Koshur Muslims only certain categories of Muslims are true Muslims - Shahid Afridi types. They would not fully own darker skin Bihari Muslims or South Indian or Bengali Muslims but would happily own Turkish Muslims, who are so called fair and good looking. This is racism or rather Kashmiri racism. Within Jammu & Kashmir, we have our own "lower category" Muslims like our Gujjar & Bakarwal brothers and Ladakhi Muslim brothers. To Gujjar Muslim brothers, we say that if a snamk or a bear and a Gujjar crosses road then kill a Gujjar rather than a snake and to our Ladakhi Muslim brother, we abusingly call him a "botta" or insulting and derogatory word for some one with North Eastern looks. And if a Koshur Muslim happen to be darker skin or so called "Bihari looking", we call him "Hanj" or "Wattul", the so called Dalit and lower caste Kashmiri Muslim communities.
Where is the Ummah then ? or is it only for Shahid Afridi and Turkish muslim types and not Bihari, Gujjar or Ladakhi types.
Brother Abdul Samad is incidentally from a proud community of Pahari Muslims from Jammu region. This is the community, which has given us Koshur Muslims many sufi saints like Sheikh Zainuddin Wali, whose famous sufi shrine at Aishmuqam in Anantnag is one of the most famous Sufi shrines of Kashmir.
Many of ur Koshur Muslims have also disowned him because he is playing for IPL and surprisingly many Koshur Pundits have also disowned him because he is a Pahari Muslim from Jammu.
What is All This ?
Pundits won't own Abdul Samad and Muslims won't own Suresh Raina and both won't own anyone who is from Jammu neither our Muslim Gujjar brother nor a Pahari Muslim and not even a Dogra Hindu from Jammu and yet we talk of grand things like Ummah etc.
This is really disappointing and shows our racism for which Koshur community is very infamous for. I know, most of you are accusing me of showing only the negative side of Koshur people but tell me what will we gain by hiding our own shortcomings ? The problem is that we expect the world to see only one side of us, whereas the world sees exactly the opposite side of us and when we notice that, we go in DENIAL and if any Koshur brings that point, we call him "traitor".
The result of all this has been the complete destruction of Kashmir.
please no more hiding our shortcomings. It is enough that Abdul Samad Suresh Raina have roots in Jammu & Kashmir - That is enough and not the caste, creed or religion.
