Rain, Snow Likely Across J&K Till October 15, Dry Weather to Follow

October 13, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Srinagar, October 13: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience unsettled weather over the next three days, with rain expected across several areas and light snowfall possible in higher reaches. Weather conditions are expected to improve from October 16, with predominantly dry weather forecast thereafter.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds on October 13, followed by a possibility of heavy rainfall on October 14. No further weather warnings have been issued for the Union Territory for the period between October 15 and 19.

According to the latest forecast from the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, intermittent rain is likely at many places between October 13 and 15 under the influence of a Western Disturbance. Higher mountain areas may receive light snowfall. The precipitation is expected to occur in spells, with intervals of relatively clear weather.

The wet conditions may also keep daytime temperatures below normal during the initial phase, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures across the Kashmir Valley and adjoining areas.

Weather conditions are expected to improve on October 16 and 17. However, brief showers may occur at isolated places, particularly in higher reaches during the afternoon and evening hours.

The extended forecast suggests predominantly dry weather from October 18 to 22, although isolated brief showers cannot be ruled out at a few locations.

The anticipated improvement in weather is likely to provide some relief for outdoor activities and agricultural operations. However, changing conditions in mountainous areas may continue to require caution.

Farmers have been advised to protect harvested crops, particularly apples and paddy, and ensure proper storage amid the possibility of rainfall and gusty winds over the coming days.

People travelling to higher reaches have also been urged to remain alert and follow official weather advisories. The possibility of heavy rainfall on October 14 warrants particular attention, while conditions are expected to gradually become more stable thereafter.

The forecast may be updated depending on the movement and intensity of the prevailing weather system. Residents are advised to stay informed through official meteorological bulletins.
