Srinagar, Oct 18: The dumping site at Rambagh has reportedly turned into a haven for stray dogs, raising concerns among local residents over sanitation and public safety.
Residents said the accumulation of waste at the site attracts large numbers of stray dogs, which are frequently seen scavenging through garbage in search of food. The situation has become a source of concern for people living in the vicinity, particularly children, elderly residents and pedestrians.
Locals expressed apprehension over the growing presence of stray dogs and said the dumping of waste, if not managed properly, could aggravate the problem. They stressed that unattended garbage not only creates unhygienic conditions but also provides an easy source of food for animals, encouraging them to congregate around the site.
Residents have urged the concerned civic authorities to ensure regular waste collection, timely clearance of garbage and proper management of the dumping site. They also called for humane measures to address the stray dog population, including animal birth control and anti-rabies vaccination.
The residents emphasised that effective waste management and sustained sanitation measures are essential to prevent the site from becoming a persistent public nuisance.
They appealed to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and other concerned agencies to intervene promptly, clear the accumulated waste and take long-term measures to maintain cleanliness and protect public health.
Residents said timely action could help improve sanitation around Rambagh and reduce the risks associated with the growing concentration of stray dogs.
