Srinagar, Oct 30: Minister Sakina Itoo has raised concerns over repeated traffic disruptions on the Srinagar-Anantnag-Kulgam-Qazigund National Highway due to security convoy movements, highlighting the difficulties faced by commuters, students and emergency services.
She said frequent stoppages along the highway have resulted in ambulances getting stuck, students missing their classes and ordinary commuters being forced to wait for extended periods, sometimes for several hours.
In a post on X, Itoo shared her concerns based on her frequent journeys along the route, questioning why ordinary citizens should have to face such inconvenience during convoy movements.
She urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the concerned authorities to consider practical arrangements to regulate traffic without compromising essential security requirements.
The minister stressed the need to ensure the smooth movement of ambulances and reduce inconvenience to the general public while maintaining necessary security protocols.
Emphasising that public safety and security must go hand in hand, Itoo called for a more sensitive approach to traffic management, saying that the welfare and daily convenience of citizens should remain an important consideration in administrative decisions.
