SDM Orders Probe Into 58-Year-Old’s Death at Thannamandi PHC Amid Negligence Allegations

September 03, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Rajouri, Sep 3: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Thannamandi has ordered an enquiry into the death of a 58-year-old man at the Public Health Centre (PHC) Thannamandi after locals alleged medical negligence.

The deceased, identified as Shokit Shawl, reportedly died following a cardiac arrest. Residents alleged that lapses on the part of medical staff at the health centre contributed to the death and demanded a fair investigation.

Taking cognizance of the allegations, the SDM wrote to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Rajouri, stating that the matter was serious and involved the delivery of essential public health services.

The SDM has asked the CMO to constitute a committee comprising senior medical officers or Block Medical Officers to conduct a detailed and impartial enquiry.

The committee has been directed to examine the patient's medical records, treatment provided at the health centre, statements of the concerned medical staff, family members and witnesses, along with any other relevant material.

The enquiry will determine whether any negligence, dereliction of duty or procedural lapse occurred during the treatment.

The committee has been asked to submit a detailed report containing specific findings and recommendations to the SDM's office within seven days for further necessary action.
