'Six Years After Article 370 Abrogation, Killings Continue': Surinder Choudhary

Jammu, August 1: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Saturday expressed concern over the killing of two migrant labourers in Kulgam, saying that continued incidents of violence raise questions about the security situation nearly six years after the abrogation of Article 370.

Expressing grief over the deaths, Choudhary said the killing of innocent labourers who had come to Jammu and Kashmir to earn their livelihood was deeply tragic and highlighted the persistent security challenges in the region.

"It is deeply saddening. Similar incidents have occurred earlier in Pahalgam and Anantnag, and now two migrant labourers who came here to earn a living have been killed. We have reached a stage where we are repeatedly forced to condemn such attacks," he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister noted that the Centre had justified the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganization of the erstwhile state into a Union Territory on the assurance that militancy would be brought to an end.

"Article 370 was revoked, and Jammu and Kashmir was made a Union Territory with the promise that terrorism would end. Six years later, if such killings are still taking place, it is natural for serious questions to be raised," Choudhary said.
