SMC steps up enforcement against building violations

July 25, 2026 | BK News Service

Srinagar, July 24: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has announced an intensified enforcement drive against unauthorised commercial constructions across the city, with demolition operations set to be significantly scaled up over the next three to five days.
SMC Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb said the Corporation is taking action wherever reports of unauthorised commercial constructions are received and has already identified several locations across Srinagar where intensified demolition drives will be carried out.
"The Chief Enforcement Officer and the enforcement staff have identified several hotspots across the city where these demolition drives will be undertaken," the Commissioner said.
Responding to a query on the possibility of intervention by other agencies, including the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), in connection with alleged illegal constructions, Haseeb said the Srinagar Municipal Corporation would continue to act strictly within its mandate.
"If any other agency also wishes to take action on the matter, there is no problem with that," he said.
The Commissioner reiterated that the Corporation remains committed to enforcing building regulations and taking action against unauthorized commercial structures in accordance with the law.
