Srinagar Schools, Madrasas Asked to Strengthen Child Safety Measures

August 24, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Srinagar, August 24: Authorities have issued a child-safety advisory to schools and madrasas across Srinagar, directing them to ensure that students are handed over only to their parents or authorised drivers and attendants after classes.

The advisory calls for greater vigilance during the dispersal of students and instructs educational institutions not to release children into the care of unauthorised individuals. Young children have also been advised not to leave school or madrasa premises on their own.

Parents have been urged to ensure that younger children are accompanied while travelling to and from educational institutions and to take necessary precautions regarding their safety.

The advisory comes amid heightened security concerns following the reported escape of two undertrial prisoners facing charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act from Central Jail Srinagar.

The two accused, identified as Farman Khan and Mukhtar Ahmad Gujar, allegedly escaped after scaling the front wall of the high-security prison. Police have since launched a search operation and issued wanted notices seeking information about their whereabouts.

Authorities have also announced a reward for information that could lead to their arrest and asked anyone with relevant information to contact the nearest police station or dial 112.

The latest instructions underline the need for schools, madrasas and parents to remain vigilant and ensure that children are safely handed over and accompanied during their daily commute.
