Three-day lecture workshop on recent advances in chemical sciences begins at KU

The Department of Chemistry, University of Kashmir (KU), in collaboration with the Journal of Chemical Sciences, Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru, today began a three-day lecture workshop on “Recent Advances in Chemical Sciences” at the Main Campus on Thursday.

The workshop is part of the outreach initiative of the editorial board of the Journal of Chemical Sciences and aims to provide students and young researchers with an opportunity to interact with leading experts and gain exposure to emerging areas of chemical sciences.

The lectures will cover recent developments, contemporary challenges and advances in different fields of chemistry, besides providing participants an insight into the latest trends in chemical research.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan said that such academic initiatives play an important role in connecting students and researchers with the latest developments in their respective fields.

“Workshops and academic interactions of this nature help our students and young researchers broaden their perspective and connect classroom learning with the rapidly changing landscape of scientific research,” she said.

In his remarks Dean Academic Affairs KU, Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada, said that exposure to contemporary research is essential for developing a deeper understanding of a subject and such events encourage students to explore new areas of research.

Dean, School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences KU, Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Malik, noted that the workshop would provide participants an opportunity to understand emerging areas of chemical sciences and engage with experts working in different domains.

Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Chemical Sciences, Prof. Irishi, said the outreach initiative of the journal is aimed at taking contemporary scientific knowledge beyond conventional academic spaces and encouraging meaningful interaction between experts, teachers and students.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Head, Department of Chemistry KU, Prof. Mohsin Bhat, said the workshop was an important academic initiative aimed at providing exposure to students and research scholars on recent developments in chemistry.

The three-day workshop features lectures by experts on emerging areas of chemical sciences, recent advances and challenges in the field, besides opportunities for interaction and discussion with the participants.

The event is being attended by research scholars and students of the University campus, as well as students of Chemistry from various colleges across the Kashmir division.

Prof. Syed Wajahat, faculty, Department of Chemistry, KU proposed formal vote of thanks on the occassion.
