Jammu, July 24: Traffic on the Jammu, Srinagar National Highway remained suspended on Friday as landslides and continuous shooting stones at several vulnerable locations continued to block the strategic road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.
Officials said restoration work is in progress at affected stretches, including Trishul Mode in Ramban district. However, persistent rainfall, unstable slopes, and falling debris have hampered clearance operations, making the highway unsafe for vehicular movement.
Authorities have urged commuters and transporters to avoid travelling on the highway until fresh traffic advisories are issued. They said the road will remain closed until conditions improve and safety is ensured.
The prolonged closure has affected the movement of passenger vehicles and delayed the transportation of essential goods. To assist stranded passengers, Northern Railway is operating special train services between Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra.
Officials said road restoration work is continuing on a priority basis and traffic will be allowed only after the highway is fully cleared and declared safe for travel.
