KU's outreach prog reaches colleges of south Kashmir at Qazigund

Anantnag, Oct 27: To bridge the gap between aspirations and opportunities for students in remote areas, the University of Kashmir (KU) launched an outreach campaign to provide career guidance, introduce new academic courses and discuss competitive exam strategies.
The campaign aims to reach far flung regions with comprehensive counselling sessions and awareness programmes.
Organised by the varsity's Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) and the Students' Counselling and Guidance Cell (SCGC), Public Relations Centre (PRC), the outreach initiative reached south Kashmir Wednesday.
At Government Degree College (GDC), Larnoo, Anantnag, experts shared insights on career planning, online education platforms, and diverse career paths across different sectors.
Senior Producer at EMRC, Ajaz-ul-Haque, encouraged students to embrace their individuality when making career choices.
"Know your strengths, find opportunities that match your talents and be prepared for the tests and chances that will come your way," he advised.
Highlighting the role of online education, Dr Tariq Abdullah, Senior Producer at EMRC, spoke about the significance of platforms like SWAYAM and SWAYAM PRABHA in democratising access to quality learning.
"Technology has made education accessible to all, but awareness of these opportunities is key. Online education, especially through SWAYAM and SWAYAM PRABHA, offers flexibility and quality resources for learning beyond traditional classrooms," he noted.
In-charge Principal, GDC Larnoo, Dr Mudasir Altaf Bhat, emphasised the need for a vision and timely guidance for career success.
The event also featured a presentation by KU's Career Counsellor at SCGC, PRC, Mir Zubair Rashid, who provided an overview of KU's course offerings at its main and satellite campuses.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, where students actively engaged with the speakers to clarify their doubts on career planning and competitive exams.
Head, Department of Economics, GDC Larnoo, Prof Irshad Ahmad Sheikh, conducted the event proceedings, while Head of the Department of Islamic Studies, Dr Syed Auqib Qadri, proposed the formal vote of thanks.
Meanwhile, a similar programme was conducted at GDC Qazigund, Anantnag Thursday, where Principal Prof G H Thakur highlighted the crucial role of career counselling in preparing students for today's workforce.
Ajaz-ul-Haque inspired students to cultivate self-worth, while Dr Tariq Abdullah elaborated on the value of online educational platforms.
Zubair Ahmad concluded the presentations with an engaging session on emerging courses tailored to market demands, introducing students to a range of options offered by the University of Kashmir and other institutions.
Prof Nehad Kaniz Fatima, Head, Department of English, conducted the proceedings, while Prof Showkat Ahmad Malik, Head, Department of Education and NSS Programme Officer, proposed the formal vote of thanks.
