Ahead of R- Day tenant registration drive launched in Poonch

January 17, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Poonch, Jan 17: Ahead of Republic Day celebrations, Poonch Police have directed all tenants in the district to register themselves at their nearest police stations within two days, citing security concerns.

Police officials on Saturday made repeated announcements through public address systems mounted on vehicles in various areas, including Mandi, urging both tenants and landlords to comply with the directive promptly.

Officials said tenant verification is a routine and essential security measure to ensure that complete tenant data is available with the police. They added that similar verification drives have already been conducted in other districts of the Jammu region and the exercise is now being intensified in Poonch to prevent any potential security lapses.

Tenants have been asked to visit their nearest police stations with relevant documents for registration, while landlords have been warned to ensure compliance to avoid legal action.

Authorities clarified that the drive is purely preventive and aimed at strengthening the overall security framework in the border district.
