Srinagar, Nov 4: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo on Wednesday inspected the ongoing construction of a state-of-the-art school complex at Abhinandan Home, Solina, aimed at strengthening educational and support facilities for children with special needs, particularly those with hearing and speech impairments.
The first-of-its-kind facility in Kashmir is being developed by the R&B Department at an estimated cost of ₹9.90 crore under the Social Welfare Department. The project is designed to provide an inclusive and accessible learning environment, while expanding opportunities for education, vocational training and skill development.
During the visit, the DC reviewed the progress of construction and was informed that over 60 per cent of the work had been completed. The complex will include modern classrooms, a computer laboratory, library, indoor games court, gymnasium, medical and therapy rooms, dormitory, dining hall and other essential facilities.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress, Labroo directed R&B engineers to expedite the work and ensure its completion by March 2027, while maintaining prescribed quality standards.
On the occasion, he also handed over a dedicated school bus to facilitate safe and convenient transportation for students.
Interacting with students and staff, the DC assured them of continued support from the District Administration for their welfare and educational advancement.
He also stressed the need to expand opportunities for children with special needs through access to higher education, vocational training, skill development programmes and trade diploma courses in coordination with Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
The initiative aims to strengthen the institution's infrastructure and equip students with skills that can promote greater independence and future employment opportunities.
