Srinagar, Sep 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the day following protests by Opposition members over several issues, including the regularisation of NHM employees, outsourcing of jobs and the increase in electricity tariffs.

The first day of the seven-sitting Autumn Session began at 10:00 AM with obituary references to three former ministers, Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Dharam Paul and Ghulam Hassan Khan, who passed away during the inter-session period. The House observed a two-minute silence in their memory.

As Question Hour commenced, Opposition members rose from their seats and raised slogans demanding regularisation of NHM employees. They also voiced objections over the alleged outsourcing of jobs to outsiders and the hike in power tariffs.

Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather repeatedly appealed to the protesting members to maintain order and allow Question Hour to proceed. However, the protests and noisy scenes continued.

Amid the disruptions, the Speaker adjourned the Assembly for the day. The House will reconvene at 10:00 AM on September 22.

The Assembly Secretariat has reserved September 22 for Government Business under the provisional calendar.
